TZEVA is an acronym for Youth Building a Future in Hebrew. The word Tzeva in Hebrew literally means color.

TZEVA is a non-profit organization and was established in 1999 to attend to the widening economic and social gaps in Israeli society by people who do not simply believe that civil action makes a difference, but take action to make a difference.

TZEVA'S Goals

  • The pursuit of equal opportunities in education and to enable children access to better education
  • Encourage volunteering and participation of individuals in their communities
  • To create new learning opportunities thereby increasing the freedom of choice and ability of each participant to pave their own path in life

How TZEVA Operates

TZEVA sets up and operates, by means of volunteers, study and enrichment centers in public schools across Israel. The centers run twice a week in the afternoon throughout the school year for children in 3rd to 6th grade, providing an atmosphere that encourages learning as well as social involvement.

Every child is assigned a volunteer that helps him/her prepare homework and study for exams. The volunteers are trained by TZEVA to provide diverse enrichment activities and serve as mentors for the children.

TZEVA provides children with the support and enrichment that family and institutional frameworks are unable to offer.

The TZEVA Children

The children most likely to benefit from TZEVA's activities are carefully selected by the school personnel. They receive academic and social enrichment as well as emotional support, improving the child’s self-confidence and inspiring a more positive self-perception. This is usually translated immediately into better results in school and improved social interaction.

Another innovative and distinct feature of the TZEVA program is the definition of personal goals for each child at the beginning of the year. This accounts for personal and focused attention, monitoring of the child’s progress, and a more rewarding realization of the process by the volunteer.

TZEVA Volunteers

In TZEVA's enrichment centers, children meet with volunteers from the greater community who help them bridge educational gaps and provide social and cultural experiences and activities. Volunteers represent a fundamental and integral part of TZEVA's philosophy. The volunteers serve as role models and as living examples of social involvement. TZEVA invests resources in training the volunteers throughout the year.

Cooperation

TZEVA's activities are organized in cooperation with the local authorities and with the encouragement of Israel's Ministry of Education which recognizes the project as a volunteer program for youth in the framework of "personal commitment." TZEVA's activities are available thanks to financial contributions from the greater business community and from volunteers amongst the managers and workers in many of the high tech companies.
